Kitchen experience ok until mounting failed while under guarantee
From now on I would prefer to avoid buying anything again from IKEA that I might ever need repaired by them (or that needs a scheduled delivery but that's another story). But if I have to, I will make sure to document evidence of everything along the way.
The delivery and installation of the kitchen was actually fine. However, after a few months, the refrigerator tipped backwards in its mounting, out of nowhere. (The kitchen had to be mounted a few inches off the ground due to a baseboard, making this possible to happen, but of course it shouldn't have happened.) I attempted to contact IKEA, as it was under a 5-year guarantee. The first person I spoke with told me to contact the manufacturer of the refrigerator, claiming that it must have been a manufacturing defect. I then tried that, contacting the manufacturer, only to be recommended to try contacting IKEA again. So I called IKEA customer service back and explained what had happened. The representative this time, although somewhat reluctant, did get me set up with the contracting company for a remounting appointment. Two technicians did show up on the scheduled day. However, they were unable to succeed, and broke the door off of the refrigerator in the process. Before leaving, they assured me that IKEA would still take care of everything, as the kitchen was under guarantee. Notwithstanding, however, I then received an e-mail from IKEA stating that my case had been determined to be manufacturing defect, and that I could contact the manufacturer, at my own cost. Fortunately, however, a family member realized that they could actually remount the refrigerator themselves, using nothing but a household screwdriver. Now, obviously, there was no "manufacturing defect". But if someone I knew hadn't been able to fix it themselves, I would have been in a very difficult situation, still needing to prove that. This also calls into question the competence of the technicians, who couldn't figure out how to remount it between both of them, and the person they called for help while there. And my family member is not even a trained professional.
Delivery service and Tampa location are both trash
I was disappointed with the customer support during this IKEA purchase. I expected clearer delivery information from IKEA. I expected clearer answers once the order became difficult. The result made the furniture purchase more stressful than it needed to be.
My main issue with IKEA came down to the shipping process. The timing or tracking did not give me enough confidence in the process. The communication made the problem feel harder to resolve than it needed to be. I would advise checking everything carefully before ordering from IKEA.
